About the Workshop

Join us for a risograph animation workshop with our friends Zine Hug! Transform the look of your digital video using the analog risograph process! Bring animation or video footage to print with 2-colors using the risograph printer. You will learn how to prepare a video file for print, how to use the risograph printer, and how to compile the prints back into a digital video file.

This workshop is for animators, filmmakers, people who like to take cell phone videos, and/or people interested in learning about riso. No prior experience necessary, but we will use Photoshop, After Effects, Spectrolite, and Adobe Media Encoder. Participants should bring a laptop with these or comparable programs to follow along. 

You'll take home 10 copies of your printed animation sheets, a scanned copy, a riso animation how-to zine, and a digital video file!

Supplies Needed

• No prior experience necessary, but we will use Photoshop, After Effects, Spectrolite, and Adobe Media Encoder. Participants should bring a laptop with these or comparable programs to follow along. 

• Footage should be 4 seconds or less.

Skill Level

• Any! No prior animation or risograph experience necessary.

Workshop Fee & Ticketing

Your ticket includes the workshop, compensation for the instructor(s), an edition of your own animated contact sheets, a scanned copy of your print, a riso animation how-to zine, and a digital video file!

We want our workshops to be as accessible as possible! Outlet is a ground-floor space with a single-stall ADA accessible bathroom. If there’s any way we can make your visit feel more comfortable or safe please let us know.

In an effort to keep our classes accessible and to keep our most vulnerable community members safe we require masks in our space for all group workshops and indoor events. We offer both masked and mask optional appointments during our open hours.

About Outlet

Outlet is a risograph print shop, community maker space, and the studio of Kate Bingaman-Burt and Leland Vaughan. We host workshops, pop-up events, and other projects and offer an array of services from printing, button making, binding, and more! We're the home of a zine library and more art supplies, making tools, and collage materials than we know what to do with. We also rent our space and offer in-person open hours where folks can print, make buttons, and hang out. Outlet is based out of Portland, Oregon and was founded in 2017.
