Let’s make a zine! This class is an introductory class to zines through the lens of riso printing!

Come learn about zines with us!

Dive into all things zine with Outlet and zine queen Kate Bingaman-Burt! In this workshop we’ll explore zine history, types of zines, talk about where to find zines, how to share them, and experiment with different zine formats (including the versatile and ubiquitous one page zine)—also we’ll spend some time actually sort of DEFINING what a zine is for those who are new to this amazing medium for sharing ideas and knowledge! Kate will give tons of prompts, tips, and inspiration to take those ideas and turn them into a tangible lovely THING.

Prerequisite: Because this class focuses on zine making for riso, some riso experience is highly recommended. If you haven’t taken our Riso Basics workshop that’s a great place to start!

We now offer this workshop both virtually and in-person at our space in Portland! Check our events calendar for upcoming dates. For the virtual we do our very best to make it as close to the real life experience as possible! We’ve got multiple cameras to get the best views of our space, mark making exercises, and a printing demo—plus you still make a zine page, it gets compiled into a collaborative zine with everyone else’s from the workshop, and then it gets mailed to you! This is a great way to connect with other creatives and riso/zine enthusiasts all over the world!

This class culminates in the group choosing a theme and making a collaborative zine that is then riso printed and assembled! Each participant will make a page to contribute to the zine.
