Explore the history of four color printing and use of halftones in printmaking! Walk through the process of setting up a full color image to print on the riso as a four color CMYK process print. In the end you’ll walk away with a gorgeous print edition, a collection of the prints made by fellow workshop attendees, a step by step guide to reference for future four color prints, and several other helpful takeaways and downloads. We will be making an edition of four color prints, using the combination of fluorescent pink, aqua, yellow and black.

We make this virtual workshop as IRL feeling as we possibly can—we’ll take a deep dive into risograph history, an overview of how these machines work, the stencil-duplicator process, and the quirks and fun (sometimes unpredictable) outcomes of riso printing. We’ll share print and zine inspiration, favorite mark making tools and how to use them for riso.

Depending on the workshop ticket tier you choose, this class culminates in making a 2-color riso print edition that is mailed to you, along with a copy of everyone else’s prints from the class! We work hard to make our virtual classes feel as hands-on as possible with worksheets and mark making, multiple camera angles, overhead camera walkthroughs, live printing and step-by-step instruction, and a packet of snail mail and printed ephemera mailed to your door!

We’re tabling again at GAMJAM! Gamjam 4, aka the Grass Hut Art Market, is back for a one-day festival celebrating the beautiful and the bizarre!

Taking place Saturday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lloyd Center Mall (2nd floor, old Ulta space near Marshall’s entrance), this year’s festival promises over 40 local artists and vendors, alongside amazing, eye-melting pieces from 40+ artists around the globe, including special guest Draculazer!

In this workshop we’ll explore all of the ways that digital illustration can be applied to risograph printing! We’ll look at the history of printing processes and ink overlays, different strategies for creating digital illustrations, and go through the process of formatting your images for successful riso printing. This workshop focuses specifically on the many ink overlay and opacity techniques possible with risograph printing—especially in creating a multi-faceted and colorful image using only a few ink colors.

Join us for one of our more advanced risograph workshops! Learn some time-honored sign painting and hand lettering techniques to use in your riso printing practice!

In this workshop, we will explore hand-lettering & techniques used by sign painters to make letters POP! We will touch on the basics of outlines, shades & shadows, decorative and beveled letters, and how we can translate these into risograph prints! We will give a nod to some of the rules of lettering and look at different examples for inspiration—but most of all we will focus on having fun and experimenting with hand drawn lettering and riso! This class culminates in us hand lettering a word or phrase to turn into a 2-color print!
